Lead AV Events & Classroom Technology Specialist

Brentwood School, a vibrant and diverse K-12 independent school, is looking for a full-time Lead AV Events & Classroom Technology Specialist starting immediately.

Position Overview

The Lead AV Events & Classroom Tech Specialist is the primary production anchor for all on-campus events while providing secondary support for classroom instructional technology. The primary focus of this role (60%) is managing the end-to-end technical lifecycle of school events—ranging from live audio engineering and stage lighting for assemblies and athletic events to board meetings and livestreams. The remaining focus (40%) is dedicated to maintaining classroom display systems, troubleshooting interactive Smartboards, and ensuring seamless media casting for teachers.  This position requires having a flexible schedule, which includes nights and weekends.

Key Responsibilities

1. Live Production & Event Operations (60%)
   • Primary Event Lead: Manage technical setup, live execution, and strike (teardown) for all school events including pep rallies, theater productions, graduations, board meetings, and guest lectures.
   • Audio Engineering & Mixing: Operate digital/analog sound consoles, manage wireless microphone RF channels to prevent interference, and ensure feedback-free audio for multi-speaker panels and musical performances.
   • Lighting & Projection: Position and control stage lighting (DMX systems), program visual media presentations, and run high-lumen campus projectors or LED walls.
   • Broadcast & Streaming: Route audio/video signals using hardware switchers and encoders to stream events to platforms like YouTube Live, Zoom, or school channels.
   • Pre-Event Coordination: Collaborate with event organizers, faculty, and student groups well in advance to map out technical run-of-shows and stage requirements.

1. Classroom AV & Smartboard Support (30%)
   • Interactive Display Maintenance: Install, configure, and troubleshoot Smartboards, interactive flat panels (e.g., SMART, Promethean, ViewSonic), and short-throw projectors across classrooms.
   • Rapid Instructional Response: Serve as a quick-response technician when classroom displays, HDMI ports, or document cameras fail during live instructional periods.
   • Device Casting & Connectivity: Assist teachers with wireless casting setup (AirPlay, Miracast, Google Cast) from laptops, iPads, and Chromebooks to classroom boards.

3. Inventory, Safety & Training (10%)

• • Gear Organization: Maintain a clean, secure inventory of all portable event AV equipment, stage cables, adapters, and backup components.
  • Training & Documentation: Provide basic "self-service" AV orientation to staff and student event crews; write simple user guides for classroom technology.
  • Maintenance & Repair: Identify failing components, manage repair logistics, and maintain cable safety across public pathways during events.

Experience and Professional Qualifications

• • Minimum 4 years of hands-on experience in live event AV production, sound engineering, and display technology support (preferably in an academic, corporate, or theatrical setting).
  • Bachelor’s degree in Audio Engineering, Media Production, Communications, or a related technical discipline preferred (or equivalent trade certifications and field experience).
  • Core Technical Skills:
    • Advanced knowledge of audio signal flow, mic placement, and live digital mixing boards.
    • Experience with hardware video switchers (e.g., Blackmagic ATEM), signal converters (HDMI, SDI), and live-stream software (OBS Studio, vMix).
    • Hands-on experience troubleshooting interactive classroom displays (Smartboards/touchscreens) and display driver software.
    • Familiarity with DMX lighting controls and stage production protocols.
  • Physical Demands: Ability to lift and transport up to 50 lbs of gear, operate ladders or lifts for lighting alignment, and work on your feet for extended live productions.
  • Work Schedule: Flexible availability required to support occasional early morning assemblies, evening performances, and weekend athletic or community events as dictate by the school calendar.

Compensation:

Brentwood School's diverse and talented faculty ranges widely in experience level, from those new to teaching to veterans who are experts in their respective disciplines with 30+ years of experience. Our salary range of $28.85 - $31.25 per hour includes all levels of experience. Salaries are determined based on years of experience, education, full- or part-time status, and number of months worked per school year. Salary ranges do not include benefits i.e. 403b retirement matching, paid lunchtime, free breakfast and lunch, free parking, subsidy toward medical, dental, vision, life/AD&D plans, and generous time off. The pay range is an estimate and is not guaranteed. If hired, your actual base salary will be determined by your education, experience, and schedule.
